The borough of River Edge has a population of nearly 11,000 residents and is located in Bergen County, New Jersey. The borough offers a convenient location, an interesting history and a numerous transportation options that take commuters to New York City and beyond. Residents of River Edge enjoy a variety of public transportation options. There are two separate train stations located in town, both of which are on New Jersey Transit's Pasack Valley Line. Residents can access New York City, as well as the rest of the State of New Jersey from these lines. New Jersey Transit also offers bus service to midtown Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal. River Edge has a rich and interesting history, and like much of New Jersey has a significant part in the American Revolution. There are two well-known historical sites in town. New Bridge Landing was the site of an important bridge crossing where General George Washington led his troops in retreat from the British forces. The Steuben House is located at New Bridge Landing, and was a house that was presented to Major-General Friedrich Wilhem von Steuben in appreciation for his service to the Continental Army. There are two primary schools in the River Edge Elementary School District. Roosevelt School and Cherry Hill School serve students in Kindergarten through sixth grade. Students in grades seven through twelve attend schools in the River Dell Regional School District, a shared district with neighboring Oradell. Students in grades seven and eight attend River Dell Regional Middle School and high school students attend River Dell Regional High School.
