New Jersey Transit trains are available from stations on Broadway and in the community of Radburn.

The name "Fair Lawn" was taken from David Acker's estate of the same name. The borough was incorporated in 1924 from a portion of Saddle River Township. Within the Borough of Fair Lawn is the community of Radburn, which was one of the first planned communities in the United States. Radburn was founded in 1929 as a "town for the motor age" and many revolutionary planning ideas were first practiced here. Radburn also introduced the "super block" as a method for residential development. Within the super block system, the first cul-de-sacs in the United States were created.

Today, approximately 3,100 people live in Radburn. Of Radburn's 149 acres, there are 23 acres of parks. There are also four tennis courts, 3 playing fields, swimming pools, a community center, preschool, library, gymnasium and train station. The remainder of Fair Lawn is a mix of residential and commercial landscapes.
